One of the main figures of cultural Reggae in Mexico City is roots reggae artist Ras Levy.
A devout Rastafarian and multitalented artist (painter, musician, Dejay), Ras Levy has been
involved in Rastafari culture and reggae music in the city of over 20 million for the last
fifteen years. In this time he has created a name for himself in the Spanish speaking reggae
communities of Mexico, Central, and South America. During a recent tour in Colombia,
which included fellow artists Leona de Etiopia and Sgt Remo, Ras Levy had the opportunity
to present his music in various stages throughout Colombia. It was at one of these events
where the artists met one of Bogota’s best reggae dancehall producers, Haffid Castillo of
Natural Dreams Productions.
Haffid is also an established artist in Colombia who goes by the stage name of Haffid Kandela.
Haffid invited Ras Levy and Sgt Remo to Natural Dreams studio which resulted in this
powerful combination tune which included Haffid performing as well as producing. This
production is a departure from Ras Levy’s style which does not usually venture into
contemporary dancehall riddims, more often sticking to roots, and classic riddims. But the
results of this three-the-hard-way collaboration are a definite success. In the chorus, Ras Levy
urges the selectah to play the riddim while Sgt Remo tells the audience the party “haffi buck so
wi a sing.” Although the song is a definite party song it does not stray from the artists’
conscious style. The artists come through with versatility and a rapid fire delivery reminiscent
of the dancehall hits of the early 90’s. As a bonus to this great recording, Livity & Unity, a video
production unit based in Bogota, Colombia did this visual register of the fun filled recording
session at Natural Dreams Productions studio.

Una de las principales figuras de la cultura musical de la ciudad de México es el artista de reggae Ras Levy. Un comprometido Rastafari y artista polifacético (pintor, musico, dejay), Ras Levy ha estado involucrado en la cultura Rastafari y la musica durante los últimos 15 años en esta ciudad con 20 millones de habitantes. Durante este tiempo se ha hecho de un nombre propio en las comunidades de reggae en México, Centro y Sudamerica. Durante su reciente gira por Colombia, la cual incluía como compañeros a Leona de Etiopía y Sgt Remo, Ras Levy tuvo la oportunidad de presentar su musica en diferentes escenarios a lo largo de Colombia. Precisamente fue en uno de estos shows donde los artistas conocieron a Haffid Castillo, uno de los mejores productores de reggae dance hall de Bogota.
Haffid esta bien cimentado en Colombia y es conocido en el medio como Haffid Kandela. El invitó a Ras Levy y Sgt Remo a Natural Dreams Estudio y esta reunión dio como resultado un poderoso tema. El tema es una combinación que incluye la participación vocal de Haffid y su producción musical en el estilo dancehall. Esta producción es un estilo diferente al que caracteriza a Ras Levy, quien no suele aventurarse en ritmos dancehall contemporáneos, mas bien reggae de raíz y ritmos clásicos. Sin embargo, esta poderosa combinación definitivamente es un éxito. En el coro de la canción, Ras Levy llama al "selecta" a darle "play" al ritmo, mientras Sgt Remo dice a la gente que la fiesta “haffi buck” (tiene que reventar). Realmente el tema es una canción para la fiesta, pero no se desvía del estilo consciente de los artistas; ellos muestran tal versatilidad que se recuerdan los éxitos de dance hall de los ‘90s. Como ingrediente extra a este gran tema Livity & Unity, productora visual con sede en Bogota, realizó este registro visual de la cálida sesión de grabación a cargo de Natural Dreams producciones.
